Children locked in vehiclesFire

The fire department will respond to reported locked vehicles which poses an immediate threat to life or property, in the following situations:

1. Person(s) that is incapable of unlocking the vehicle and that is locked in vehicle and is in immediate danger due to heat or other medical condition. Law enforcement should respond in the event a report and DSS referral is needed.

2. Pet(s) locked in closed vehicle without air conditioning.

3. Vehicles locked and running inside of a closed structure producing hazardous atmosphere.

The owner of the vehicle is required to sign a Waiver of Liability.

If my child is locked in a vehicle, will the fire department come and help them out?

The fire department does assist in getting children out of locked vehicles in accordance with departmental policy.
