Kannapolis- The City of Kannapolis will host the fifth annual Kannapolis Kares Day on Saturday, September 25. On this day of citywide community service, the City actively seeks volunteer activities from civic, educational, neighborhood, business and religious organizations.
"Right now, our big point of emphasis is recruiting organizations to participate," said Kannapolis Community Outreach Coordinator Renee Goodnight. "We would love to see lots of projects spearheaded and completed by those in our community."
In past years, projects have included everything from stream and litter clean-ups to food drives to school supply drives.
"Really, what we'd like to see is groups looking around them and filling a need," said Goodnight. "Whether that be helping fix someone's porch, working on a beautification project like adding flower beds, or collecting items for our local non-profits."
Kannapolis Kares Day began in 2006 as a part of the Kannapolis Centennial Celebration. This year, the event will include breakfast sponsored by Franklin Heights Baptist Church, lunch by Ci-Ci's Pizza, and drinks from Sonic and Marble Memorial Church. The first 500 volunteers will receive a free t-shirt.
Those interested in participating in Kannapolis Kares Day can contact Renee Goodnight at 704-920-4311 or rgoodnight@cityofkannapolis.com or visit www.cityofkannapolis.com for more information.
